Last night I had to interrupt my hubby's reading of the book just to seethe about how much I detest that evil bitch!

Honestly, she is a mad crazy bitch...I have seldom hated a villian more completely in a novel.

Agreed, she is a despicable person. But I love to hate her! When I finish reading a chapter on her, I look forward to reading the next one so I can hate her some more.

With the way Jaime became a strong and sympathetic character once he became a POV I really expected the same to happen with Cercei. I'm glad that, even though GRRM doesn't typically write strictly good or evil characters, I can still dislike Cercei even after she became a POV.

I'm SO there with you. But as an aside, I've decided that Brienne of Tarth is a TOTAL rock star.

          Now now.
Cersei definately is a piece of work.
But way i figure, shes is driven by a quest for power. Think about it, she was used by her father, her husband, just about every male in her family in a society that doesnt seem to value women's opinions that much. Now, she has this opportunity to throw her wieght around and hell yeah- shes's going to take it. She isnt stupid, just untrained and doesnt see the whole picture before she acts.
And She doesnt see people as human beings, just tools to an end. A lot like her father.
She loves/hates Jaime and her children. That is obvious, she has got a protective streak, twisted though it is. Cersei loves them , in part, because they are extensions of herself. CHild ren of her body and the twin brother/lover.
Jaime and Cersei are in love with the reflections of themselves in one another.
So, yeah, she isnt full of redeeming features,. But having her POV kind of makes me sorry for her, cause anyone displaying this sort of sociopathic behavior isnt going to come to a good end.

          Just my two cents

Y'know, i'm kind of re-going through the book, trying to pick up little details i breezed over the first time. And the chapters that hold my attention and i find most interesting are the Cersei (and Jaime) chapters. Cersei is a real interesting character, with her plots and twisted, obsessed view. I don't, however, feel the least bit sorry for her, the conniving trollop.

Well, I mean sorry for her in the way you can feel sorry for some sociopath or narcissitic person because they are so damaged that they will never really be a fully realized human being, thus losing out on a lot of the joy of being a person. Damn thats one long sentence.
