Hello everyone! I just picked up the first book yesterday and I find it difficult to put it down! I had to come see if there was a tribe for this series, and lo and behold....!
Can't wait to get through the series so I can read all the posts lol.

Re: New fan
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 7:54 PMI've read them twice through and am reading the fourth book again for the second time. When you buy a cd, if it's good, you don't just listen once.
GRRM's work is rich, worthy of re-reading, gaining new insights, considering new plot angles. He is a true master. -

Fri, January 13, 2006 - 12:48 AMWait til he gets to the part about the vampiric wombats and the Unicorn Races.
Oh damn, and that whole mead drinking contest that turned into an orgy in the underwater crystal caves? Damn that was HOT.
Oh wait.....never mind. Nothing. -

Re: New fan
Fri, January 13, 2006 - 3:31 PMWow guys, thank you so much for the warm welcome!! I am only halfway through the first book at this point, and I am so in love lol. And people tell me I haven't even reached the good stuff yet! I guffaw at that, it's a pleasure to read just the way George Martin writes.
And already Arya is my favorite character, I think.
by the way, I have a tribe that deals with casting for films adapted from books, video games, whatever....if you think have a good cast list for ASoIaF, drop in and post it! (Some day soon I am going to post a huge cast list for WoT lol)

Thanks again guys! -

Re: New fan
Sat, January 14, 2006 - 10:16 AMWoT = Wheel of Time, a fantasy series written by one Mr. Robert Jordan. I've read the whole thing so far and I already like A Song of Ice and Fire more...I feel like I've cheated on my significant other...must repent!

Re: New fan
Sat, January 14, 2006 - 6:56 PMOh, duh. I'm afraid my opinion is that there's nohohohohohohooooooooo comparison between the two series. I had to fight my way through the first Jordan book and then didn't feel like continuing with the next one. Though i've been told that i should have given it more of a chance, for the later books. Anyway, someone needs to start a new thread about who will play who in the SoIaF Megaseries. -

Re: New fan
Tue, January 17, 2006 - 6:25 PMI read the first 10 books of the WofT series and while I liked the plot and storylines, it is sooo slow compared to F&I. Jordan repeats everything so often, he must get paid by the word. And I was sorely disappointed in the prequel about Lan and Morraine. Seriously, how many times can you talk about people’s outfits?
But, with F&I, hold on to your seat…I read the first three then a year later picked up the second book, then the third, then the first again. It is amazing how intricate the books and plots are. I was hooked after the first 100 pages and rave to everyone how great the series is.
Just bought the 4th book and am in the beginning chapters… can’t wait! -

Re: New fan
Tue, January 17, 2006 - 7:37 PMThe other day i found a new copy of GoT for free and just started reading the first - prelude (Others!) - chapter for the hell of it. God, the writing is so good! The description is so mood-evoking and character-defining, and yada yada it's all been said a million times, but . . . God, the writing is so good!
I started reading it all over for like the fifth time, but a friend came along and expressed interest, and i said, "Here, take it, it's yours!" Another convert. -

Re: New fan
Mon, January 30, 2006 - 8:21 PMGRRM is the world champion. RJ is high AAA. I did like the first three books in the WOT, but with the fourth book it was "Is Paul dead?" This is truly proof. It may be that he made so much on the early books that he outsourced the rest of them to India.
Btw there is a wonderful website A Song of Ice and Fire, where there are a million threads going on about GRRM's masterworks. It is recommended.
